How to Enable IMAP in Gmail on Android

To enable IMAP in Gmail on Android, refer to the following steps:

  • Step 1:Launch the browser and sign in to your Gmail account.
  • Step 2:The settings are at the top-right corner of the Gmail homepage.
  • Step 3:Select the Gmail settings to enable IMAP in Gmail on Android.
  • Step 4:The screen will now display a list of tabs, select Forwarding, and POP/IMAP option.
  • Step 5:The option opens up a list of three boxes:
    • 1: Forwarding
    • 2: POP download
    • 3: IMAP access
  • Step 6:In the IMAP access, set the status to Enabled.
  • Step 7:Click Save changes to enable IMAP in Gmail on Android.

Now, on your Android device and tap the Email icon.

  • Step 1:It will ask for your email address and password.
  • Step 2:Enter the credentials and tap on the Manual setup.
  • Step 3:Choose one of:
    • 1: POP3 Account
    • 2: IMAP Account (Select the option)
    • 3: Microsoft Exchange Activesync
  • Step 4:On selecting IMAP Account, it will ask you to enter.
    Username : (email id)
    Password : (password used for email)
    IMAP server :
    Port : 993 
    Security Type : SSL (Secured Shell)
  • Step 5:Once you tap OK, it will configure the incoming server settings.
  • Step 6:On the next screen, enter the Outgoing server information
    SMTP server :
    Port : 465
    Security Type : SSL 
  • Step 7:When prompted, enter your username and password. Tap Next.
  • Step 8:The outgoing server settings are now configured.

Once the account is set up, the device will ask you to name the account and create a username to enable IMAP in Gmail on Android.
