Mac Mail Cannot Change Incoming Mail Server

Mac Mail is the default email client on a Mac system. The Mail app will allow you to add any email account to the system and you can easily access your emails instead of going to the webmail. You will be able to add your Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, and other email accounts to the Mac Mail app.

Even with the vast amount of email clients available, the Mac Mail is popular because of the way it manages the data. With the help of the incoming mail server and the outgoing mail server, you will be able to add any email account to Mac Mail.

Some users are now facing an issue that they are not able to change their account’s incoming mail server. The issue is because they might have preferred the automatic method while configuring the email account on Mac Mail. We will now see the steps to resolve the incoming mail server error on Mac mail.

  • Step 1: On your Mac computer, make a double-click on the Mac mail icon to open it.
  • Step 2: Once the app is launched, click the Mac option on top.
  • Step 3: Select the Mail option and click the Preferences option.
  • Step 4: Click the Accounts option and select Server Settings.
  • Step 5: Click on Advanced options.
  • Step 6: You will now find the option Automatically detect and maintain account settings. Click on the option to deselect.
  • Step 7: You can now specify the following information based on the email service provider.
  • Step 8: To set up the account manually, you will need the incoming mail server, outgoing mail server, and their respective ports.
  • Step 9: If you couldn’t fix the issue, then better remove your email account from Mac Mail and then add the account once again manually.
