Thunderbird Protonmail Settings - Quick Steps

Mozilla Thunderbird is one of the most popular email clients that can manage multiple email accounts under a single platform. The ProtonMail settings include the IMAP/POP and SMTP server settings that can be configured in the Thunderbird client. ProtonMail provides a Bridge application to seamlessly encrypt and decrypt your emails as it enters and leaves your computer. Before configuring Thunderbird to use your ProtonMail email account, download and install the Bridge application on your computer. For detailed instructions to configure Thunderbird Protonmail settings, follow these steps.

Thunderbird Protonmail Settings
  • Step 1 : On your computer, launch theBridge app and click on the Add Account button at the bottom-left corner.
  • Step 2 : Next, enter your ProtonMail email address in theUsername Enter your email password as well and click Next to sign-in to your ProtonMail account.
  • Step 3 : Choose your email account in theAccount section and expand it to select the Mailbox configuration
  • Step 4 : You can now see the following Thunderbird ProtonMail settings in a new pop-up window.
  • IMAP Settings :

    • Username: Incoming mail server name
    • Password: Your account password
    • Port: 1143
    • Security: STARTTLS

    SMTP Settings :

    • Username: Outgoing mail server name
    • Password: Your account password
    • Security: STARTTLS
  • Step 5 : After verifying your ProtonMail settings, launch Thunderbird and click the Tools menu at the top.
  • Step 6 : Select Account Settings from the pull-down menu to open the Account Settings to perform Thunderbird Protonmail settings.
  • Step 7 : Click the drop-down menu at the bottom-left corner of the Account Settings window and select Add Mail Account .
  • Step 8 : In the pop-up window, give a name for your account and fill the Email address and Password
  • Step 9 : Next, fill the server information fields with the IMAP and SMTP mail server settings.
  • Step 10 : Select STARTTLS from the drop-down menu next to Port .
  • Step 11 : Make sure that the settings are the same as given in the Bridge
  • Step 12 : To verify the configured settings, click the Re-test button and click Done after completing the verification.
  • Step 13 : Finally, you have successfully configured the Thunderbird ProtonMail settings.
