Windows Live Mail Is Not Working

As we all know, the Windows Live Mail is a personal web application that helps you to send and receive emails, and also consists of other services like calendars and contacts much similar to that of Gmail or Yahoo!. When it comes to applications, you are always bound to have errors, and the Windows Live Mail (WLM) is no different. You might sometimes come across the error where you are not able to access Windows Live Mail.Well, here are some troubleshooting methods that can resolve the Windows live mail is not working issue.

Method 1: Run Windows Live Mail As Administrator

  • Step 1: Open the Windows Live Mail from the program files.
  • Step 2: Navigate to the C:\ drive, go to program files, and select the Windows Live Mail application.
  • Step 3: You can right-click on the application file ‘wlmail.exe’ from the drive and open Properties.
  • Step 4: Select the Compatibility tab on the top pane of the Properties window and select the option Run Compatibility troubleshooter.
  • Step 5: In the compatibility tab, go to the mode section and select the Windows Operating system from the drop-down list.
  • Step 6: Click the checkbox near the option, Run this program in compatibility mode.
  • Step 7: Click the OK button.

Method 2: Check Windows Firewall And Third-party Firewalls

Let me guide you through the Firewall settings for the Windows Live Mail application.

  • Step 1: Launch the Windows Search bar. When it opens type Firewall and press the Enter button.
  • Step 2: You will now see the search results with Windows Firewall listed to resolve this Windows live mail is not working issue.
  • Step 3: Open the Windows Firewall Settings and click the link that reads Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall.
  • Step 4: Click on Change Settings option, and now you will see the Allowed Apps and features dialog box.
  • Step 5: Now, you have to enable the following protocols from the Apps and features dialog box for both Private and Public sections.
  • Step 6: Windows Live Communications Platform
  • Step 7: Windows Live Communications Platform (SSDP)
  • Step 8: Windows Live Communications Platform (UPnP)

Once enabled, click the Change Settings button on the top right corner of the dialog box. Restart your Windows computer and see if you are able to access Windows Live Mail.  

Method 3: Disable Antivirus 

  • Step 1: Sometimes the cause for certain errors that happen while accessing the internet can be due to the interference from the antivirus program installed on your computer.
  • Step 2: Sometimes, disabling the antivirus fixes the problem. So, consider shifting to a better antivirus program that does not cause any issues or interference with the Windows Live Mail.

Method 4: Delete and create a new Windows Live Mail account 

  • Step 1: If the above methods do not help in resolving the problem, you can simply create a new Windows Live Mail account.
  • Step 2: The Signup process is quite simple.
  • Step 3: Open the default browser and enter the Windows Live mail website in the address bar.
  • Step 4: Click the signup button, follow the on-screen instructions, and complete the account creation process.
  • Step 5: Make sure you update the browser in which you are using the Windows Live Mail to avoid Windows live mail is not working issue.
