Windows Live Mail Not Opening

Windows Live Mail is a built-in email client on the Windows OS. Consider the steps that are given below to fix the Windows live mail not opening issue.

Step 1: End The Windows Live Mail Process

  • Step 1: You may face this issue if you have recently updated your operating system to Windows 10.
  • Step 2: Press the Control + Shift + Esc keys together to launch the Task Manager.
  • Step 3: Select the Processes tab and locate the wlmail.exe process. Right-click on the process and select the End Task option.
  • Step 4: Now, restart Windows Live Mail and check whether it opens.

Step 2: Clear Windows Live Mail Cache

  • Step 1: If Windows Live Mail doesn't open, press the Windows and R buttons together.
  • Step 2: When the Run dialog box appears, type "%localappdata% in the Search section, and hit Enter.
  • Step 3: Open the Microsoft folder and double-click on Windows Live Mail.
  • Step 4: Now, find the .cache folder and delete it to resolve Windows live mail not opening issue.

Step 3: Change Compatibility Mode

  • Step 1: Open File Explorer, open the Local disc (C:), and select Program Files.
  • Step 2: Double-click on the Windows Live or Windows Mail folder.
  • Step 3: Right-click on the wlmail.exe file and select Properties.
  • Step 4: Click the Compatibility tab and checkmark the Run this program in compatibility mode option.
  • Step 5: Choose Windows 7 from the drop-down list. Then, click on the Apply button.

Step 4: Repairing Windows Essentials

  • Step 1: Open Control Panel from the Start menu.
  • Step 2: Click the Uninstall a program option under Programs and Features.
  • Step 3: Now, locate Windows Essentials and select it. Then, click on the Uninstall/Change button.
  • Step 4: Select the Repair all Windows Essentials programs and wait until the repairing process is complete. Then, reboot your computer.

Step 5: Change System Restore point

  • Step 1: Open the Run dialog box and enter "sysdm.cpl" in the Search section. Then, click the OK button.
  • Step 2: Navigate to the System Protection tab and click on the System Restore button.
  • Step 3: Select a System Restore Point and click Next.
  • Step 4: Complete the system restoring process by following the instructions on the screen.
  • Step 5: Restart your computer and open Windows Live Mail to access your emails to ensure Windows live mail not opening issue fixed.
